Major Plant Operator

About the role

Shoalhaven City Council is seeking a Major Plant Operator to join the Southern Maintenance team based at the Ulladulla depot. You will have civil construction and maintenance experience and supervisory skills.

 

Duties


Reporting directly to the Team Supervisor, Southern Maintenance, the focus of this position is to:

  • Operate Major plant and equipment for maintenance and/or construction activities as directed by the Supervisor and/or Ganger whilst providing quality workmanship
  • Support and supervise staff in the day to day operations of the Construction and Maintenance Unit
  • Undertake manual tasks such as shovelling, screeding, raking, digging and lifting, traffic control, etc.
  • Operate and maintain small plant items such as chainsaws, plate compactors, jack picks, concrete saws, electric power tools, vegetation trimmers, etc.
  • Assist in Councils’ after hours responses to emergencies and other operational needs. This includes being available for ‘call backs’.
  • Ensure the work area’s compliance with relevant legislation and Council policies and ensure that risks are managed.

Position will work 76 hours within a 2 week roster.

 

Skills & Experience

 In order to be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • School Certificate and/or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in operating major plant, backhoes, excavators and trucks.
  • Demonstrated experience in civil construction and/or maintenance activities
  • Current WHS Construction Card (WorkCover)
  • RMS Traffic Controller Certificates – Traffic Controller Blue Card and Apply Traffic Control Plans – Yellow Card
  • Class HR Licence
