Senior Building Designer

Shoalhaven City Council is seeking a Senior Building Designer to our Technical Service Team

About the role

This is a full-time permanent position, Monday to Friday 35 hours per week 9.00am to 5.00pm. Located in Nowra Administration Building.

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.


Reporting directly to the Manager Design Services, the focus of this position is to:

  • To lead and manage the Building & Landscape Design Team in the investigation, design, specification, estimation, and construction approval of a wide range of infrastructure projects in the Local Government context
  • To foster and encourage up to date and current advances in design principles and standards and innovative solutions are given consideration.
  • To manage quality assurance of the work completed by the Building & Landscape Design Team and consultants.
  • To manage projects from idea to construction ready
  • Lead and manage the day to day operations of the Building & Landscape Design Team in accordance with the organisation’s objectives, teams functional responsibilities, accountabilities, structure and resources as approved by the Council and articulated in Annual Operational Plans, to ensure optimal triple bottom line returns to the Council and the community.
  • Ensure processes and protocols are in place for the Building & Landscape Design Team compliance with all relevant legislation and Council policies and ensure that risks are managed.

Skills & Experience

In order to be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in Architecture or related discipline
  • Not less than 5 years’ experience in the design, specification and costing of building and/or landscape design infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team.
  • BDAA Level 2 Accreditation
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a project and obtain development consent through SEPP infrastructure or a Development Application.
  • Class C Driver’s License
