About the role
There are TWO positions available and are both permanent, full time working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. They are based in an office close to Nowra City Centre.

There are 4 salary steps within the grade range shown. Progression through the salary steps is based upon the achievement of performance objectives .

Duties
As part of a small team reporting directly to a Team Coordinator, these positions will contribute to:

  • Preparing and implementing local planning documents, including Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement and associated strategies, planning proposals, local environmental plans, development control plans, contribution plans, urban design plans, and other policy documents.
  • Place-based planning and revitalisation activities for Nowra City Centre, Ulladulla Town Centre, and other local centres and precincts, including the Nowra Riverfront Entertainment and Leisure Precinct.
  • Preparing the planning and development controls to guide the delivery of new residential areas, including the infrastructure required to support future communities.
  • Collaborate with other Council groups requiring planning advice and contribute to a range of priority projects and strategies.
  • Prepare submissions to government agency initiatives, policies, or legislation.
  • Attend relevant technical or community-based committees.
  • Assist the public and other stakeholders with strategic planning enquiries.

Skills & Experience
In order to be successful in the position, you will demonstrate:

Essential Criteria:

  • Completion, or near completion, of a recognised tertiary qualification in a field such as urban and regional planning, town planning, or related qualification providing eligibility for  membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant environmental planning and local government legislation, and an ability to interpret the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the preparation of presentation material.
  • Ability to consult, share information and work collaboratively within a team and across an organisation.
  • Class C Driver’s Licence.
  • Proof of Australian residency or citizenship

Desirable Criteria

  • Local Government experience in strategic and/or statutory planning.
  • An understanding of the importance of good urban design and its importance to local character.
  • Experience or an interest in preparing and working with development contribution plans, voluntary planning agreements and works-in-kind agreements.
