Environmental Project Officer

Shoalhaven Water is seeking an Environmental Project Officer to join our Operations team on a full-time basis.

About the role

This is a full time, permanent position, Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm. Located in South Nowra Water Depot 

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.

Duties

Reporting directly to the Unit Manager Wastewater Operations, the focus of this position is to:

  • Coordinate the management of reclaimed water and biosolids to end users in accordance with government objectives and guidelines.
  • To manage the operation of the Reclaimed Water Management Scheme in respect to re-use agreements, monitoring reclaimed water quality and soil nutrient uptake, and environmental monitoring programs within the scheme.
  • To coordinate effluent testing at all wastewater treatment plants to meet Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Licence requirements.
  • To promote development of new beneficial re-use schemes within the Shoalhaven.
  • To coordinate biosolids testing at all treatment plants and, where suitable, beneficial re-use to farms.
  • Ensure processes and protocols are in place for the Water and Wastewater Operations Team’s compliance with all relevant legislation and Council policies and ensure that risks are managed.
  • To oversee and coordinate the contract for potable water sampling and testing to meet NSW Health requirements.
  • Oversight of Water Quality Management System.

Skills & Experience

In order to be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • Tertiary qualification (Degree in Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering) and relevant experience in the field.
  • Class C Driver’s Licence.
  • Proof of Australian residency or citizenship
  • Experience in environmental protection including sound knowledge of environmental legislation operating in NSW.
  • Well developed skills in project development and implementation of operational plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and consult with stakeholders.
  • High level communication skills (including oral and written) including demonstrated ability to make presentations to groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow defined WHS policies and procedures.
  • A commitment to undertake relevant workplace training.
