About the role
Council is currently recruiting for a Development Planner. This position is full time/permanent working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm and will be based at the Ulladulla Branch Office located at 14 Deering Street, Ulladulla reporting to the Senior Planner – Anne McDonald.

The successful applicant may also be required to undergo training and work from the Nowra Administration Centre at 36 Bridge Road, Nowra as required.

The Development Planner position is a grade range position, therefore in accordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed (based on the capability framework) either as Grade 9, 10 or 11 as per below.

  • Grade 9 salary range: $74,082 – $86,240
  • Grade 10 salary range: $81,819 – $93,982
  • Grade 11 salary range: $89,562 – $101,719

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps is based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.

Duties
The focus of this position is to:

  • Assist in the administration of applicable Acts so as to achieve the best built environment, health, welfare and well-being of the whole community and to ensure achievement of the objectives of Council’s Management Plan and Council’s levels of customer service.
  • Provide for the protection, promotion and improvement of the natural and built environment, and public amenity and safety in order to achieve the objectives of Council’s Community Strategic Plan.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance to the public on development related matters.
  • To manage, assess and process development assessments under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (incorporating matters such as other approvals, eg section 68, and integrated approvals).

Skills & Experience
In order to be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • Completion or near completion of recognised tertiary qualifications in a field such as Urban and Regional or Town Planning (or related tertiary qualifications), providing eligibility for corporate membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant environmental planning legislation and ability to interpret legislation such as the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979.
