Ranger

About the role
This is a permanent, full-time position working 38 hours per week as per the roster. This position will be based at the Nowra Administration Building. This is a vital role in governing and enhancing Council’s natural environment, community safety and enforcing legislation around animal management and parking enforcement.

Duties
Reporting directly to the Team Supervisor – Rangers, the focus of this position is to:

  • Patrol the Shoalhaven to detect and deter illegal or unauthorised activities which includes protection of Council assets, the environment, animal management and parking offences.
  • Respond to complaints, providing excellent customer service through the provision of timely action and accurate information and education in relation to the objectives of the Ranger Services.
  • Enforce legislation in accordance with the delegated authority for the position. This includes conducting investigations, obtaining evidence, issuing orders, notices and warnings; initiating court action, keeping accurate records, and seizing and impounding animals, vehicles and articles.
  • Work within relevant legislation, guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in the development of enforcement programs and operational plans.
  • Assist emergency services agencies during emergencies.

Skills & Experience
To be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Services) or equivalent.
  • Experience in a similar discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation and policy.
  • Animal microchipping certification, or ability to obtain necessary certification.
  • Eligible for Justice of the Peace appointment.
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

This is a grade range position, therefore in accordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed as either Grade 5 or 8. 

Grade 5 – Salary: $62,337 - $70,064 p.a. plus 11.5% Super
Grade 8 – Salary: $74,079 - $83,267 p.a. plus 11.5% Super

This position requires a current NSW Working with Children Check. Applicants are required to apply and pay for this check if not already obtained.  

Council requires applicants for this position to undergo a National Criminal History Check during the recruitment process. This check will be at the expense of Council.
