Strategic Planner

About the role
This is a permanent/full time position working 35 hours a week, 9am-5pm, Monday - Friday, at the Nowra Administrations Building, 36 Bridge Road, Nowra.

This role will support and contribute to the Strategic Planning Team's work to developing and implementing strategies and research for land use planning projects.

The advertised salary is based on the grade of the position, comprising of 4 steps within the range shown. The starting salary is at Step 1 within the grade. Progression through the salary steps shall be based upon the achievement of performance objectives relating to the position.

Duties
Reporting directly to the Coordinator - Strategy Planning Team, the focus of this position is to:

  • Formulate and prepare strategic planning policies and documents including, Local Strategic Planning Statements, structure plans, settlement strategies, environmental studies, planning proposals, local environmental plans, development control plans, contribution plans, urban design plans and other policy documents.
  • Provide assistance to the team and Coordinator - Strategy Planning Team to collaboratively work toward business objectives. 
  • Liaise with other Groups of Council requiring planning advice and in the preparation of policy documents.
  • Review and prepare submissions to government agency initiatives, policies or legislation.
  • On occasion, attend relevant technical or community-based committees, with supervisor and/or other senior staff members.
  • Assist the public and other stakeholders with strategic planning enquiries.

Skills & Experience
To be successful in the position, you will possess:

  • Completion, or near completion, of recognised tertiary qualifications in a field such as urban and regional or town planning (or related tertiary qualifications), providing eligibility for corporate membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant environmental planning legislation and ability to interpret legislation such as the Environmental Planning & Assessment Act 1979.
  • Class C Driver’s Licence
  • Proof of Australian residency or citizenship, or authority to work in Australia (visa).

This is a grade range position, therefore in accordance with qualifications, accreditation, experience and demonstrated skills, the prospective employee will be assessed as either Grade 9, 10 or 11.

Grade 9 – $80,125 - $93,275 p.a. plus 11.5% Super

Grade 10 - $88,494 - $101,649 p.a. plus 11.5% Super

Grade 11 - $96,868 - $110,017 p.a. plus 11.5% Super
