Major Plant Operator

Council is looking for an individual who can operate Major plant and equipment for maintenance and/or construction activities

About the role

This is a full time permanent position, 38 hours per week (7.00am to 4.00pm)


Reporting directly to the Team Supervisor – Plant & Fleet, the focus of this position is to:

  • To operate major plant and equipment for maintenance and/or construction activities as required by the Fleet Services hire shop.
  • Support the day to day operations of the Fleet Services or Construction / Maintenance activities
  • Supervise staff or activities to complete assigned work.
  • Participate in an On Call roster or Call Back arrangements to resolve and or support after hour responses to issues.
  • Undertake manual tasks using small tools and equipment
  • Ensure the work area’s compliance with relevant legislation and Council policies and ensure that risks are managed.

Skills & Experience

In order to be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

  • School certificate and/or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience in operating various plant items and trucks, including, but not limited to fuel truck, water cart, backhoe, excavator, skid steer and tipper trucks
  • Demonstrated experience in civil construction and/or maintenance activities
  • Current National WHS Construction Card (WorkCover)
  • RMS Traffic Controller Certificates – Traffic Controller Blue Card and Apply Traffic Control Plans - Yellow card or willingness to obtain
  • Class HR Licence
